Carers week 2023 (5th June to 11th June)

Updated: Jul 17, 2023

Counselling for Carers

Counselling can help you think about your situation, explore your thoughts and feelings about your caring role and relationship with the person you care for. Explore your options to help you find your own solutions and develop coping strategies.

Being a carer can feel isolating, lonely and can put considerable pressure on people, including emotional and financial pressures. Pressures can sometimes be lifelong.

What else can I do?

You can access your legal right to a ‘carers needs assessment’ through Adult social services at your local council or be referred for an assessment through one of the carer charities. This will help identify your needs.

The assessment will give you the opportunity to discuss your needs, i.e.

· Own health, and how it affects you

· Housing issues

· Your relationships, social life, (would you benefit from a break away from your caring responsibilities)

· Education, training, work (how can you be supported to attain your goals)

· Your feelings and choice about being a carer

· Support in planning for emergencies

Where can I meet other carers?

Join your local carer group, gain support and meet people in a similar situation to yourself. Contact your local council for groups in your area. Contact https://www.carersuk.org
